Jianing Kong was born in 1986 in China, and entered the Canton Conservatory of Music at the age of twelve. In 2002, after winning prizes at the National Youth Competition in Beijing and the Third Prize in the Inter-Asia Toyama competition in Hong Kong, he won a scholarship to study at the Purcell School. He subsequently studied at the Royal College of Music, graduating in 2010. In 2011, Jianing was also awarded the prestigious RCM Mills Williams Junior Fellowship and the RCM Artist Diploma. He has won numerous international prizes including 6th Prize at the 2009 Leeds International Piano Competition, 2nd Prize at the 2008 Tunbridge Wells I nternational Young Concert Artist Competition and the Barcapel Prize in the 2007 Scottish International Piano Competition. Between 2008 and 2011, Jianing won several scholarship awards including the Philharmonia Orchestra Martin Musical Scholarship, the Musicians Benevolent Fund Educational Award and the Derek Butler Prize. Most recently, he won 1st Prize at the 2013 Valsesia International Piano Competition and 3rd Prize at the 2014 Scottish International Piano Competition, and was a semi-finalist in the prestigious Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels. He has given performances at festivals and major venues across the U.K. and Europe.. He also frequently returns to China where he has appeared in all the major concert halls. He has appeared with the Halle Orchestra under Sir Mark Elder at the Leeds Town Hall, and was invited to perform Beethoven's Triple Concerto at the Royal Festival Hall, as part of the Purcell School's Fifty Years Anniversary Gala concert. In 2012, Jianing was selected by the Keyboard Charitable Trust as one of their artists and was subsequently invited to give a series of recitals at venues across Europe and America. In the same year, Jianing was also selected by the Kirckman Concert Society as one of their artists and gave his Wigmore Hall debut recital in January 2014 to great critical acclaim. He gained 3rd Prize at the 2015 Santander International Piano Competition, and recently won 6th prize in the Sydney International Piano Competition.
