Charles Economou is a musician with wide-ranging interests. He first studied Mathematics at Cambridge University, but encouraged by Murray Perahia and Howard Shelley among others, he decided to make music his career. He has given many concerts as a solo pianist, accompanist and chamber musician, and his concerto performances have included Beethoven's Emperor and the Ravel G major, while his solo recitals have presented a diverse repertoire ranging from Bach to modernist pieces such as the Boulez sonatas, alongside the great romantic works of Chopin, Schumann and Brahms. He has also worked extensively as an accompanist for singers, and has been the accompanist of Ealing Choral Society since 2005. Apart from his playing he enjoys composing, and one of his pieces, Kurukshetra for violin, piano and reciter, was performed at the Muziekgebouw Amsterdam and broadcast on Dutch classical radio. Arjuna's Transfiguration - a shorter related piece - has been recorded by Hugo Ticciati and Henrik Mawe for their album Sonic Philosophy.
